Mr. Altmayer is the former owner of Scientific Control Laboratories, Inc. in Chicago IL; a company that provides technical expertise to the metal finishing industry. He sold the company in 2007 and remains one of the most knowledgeable metal finishing experts in the industry.
Mr. Altmayer has been an instructor for AESF since 1980 and has served as the Technical Education Director of AESF Foundation/NASF since 1992.
Mr. Altmayer takes on consulting projects as time allows. He has 52 years’ experience in metal finishing, the design and trouble-shooting of metal finishing processes/shops and wastewater treatment systems.
This presentation will cover some basic, but important concepts in cleaning/preparing metals for metal finishing. We will discuss how the preparation steps taken before finishing can affect part quality, especially salt spray resistance of Chem Film/Anodized aluminum and plating adhesion of various metals. For example, the way aluminum is prepared prior to Chem Film and Sulfuric-Boric anodizing application can actually affect salt spray performance. We will also focus on some tough to plate metals such as aluminum die casting, stainless steel and other nickel-based alloys. What are the primary methods of producing metal parts and how can poor control over those methods produce defects that show up after plating? Examples include die casting, sand casting, forging, and powder metallurgy. We will leave time to answer your questions.

The exhibits will be open from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and there will be a buffet dinner and a cash bar. Please attend and bring your key staff members – there is no registration fee, we want all our members to participate! We want a good turnout to show support for the suppliers that have contributed to the MFANC by buying tables and sponsoring this year.
Your registration is free, however dinner is ONLY $15 per person.
Special Note: To encourage attendance, once again the association policy is to assess each member company the price of three registrations/dinner tickets, $45.00, whether you use it or not. You will receive an invoice. Even if you can’t attend personally, send a key staff member, perhaps a foreman, or other supervisors who can benefit from this event.
